Allow me to give a little back story on this piece.

I decided to take this back to the drawing board. At first, I planned to make a challenge with this piece. I wanted to see if I could finish it in 1-2 days. This would allow me to post new paintings more frequently in order to appease the social media algorithm Gods. After two days, I called it finished and posted it. After looking at it some more, I realized that I wished I had spent more time on it.

This was an important lesson for me. I felt ashamed of my work. After that, I realized that I'd rather allow each painting to take the full time it needs than to just rush it out for social media. I don't care if I lose money or if the algorithm Gods decide to cast me into the abyss. I'm done sacrificing my artistic integrity for the tech elites.

A painting may truly never be finished. But you should never sacrifice its quality to get a post. Never rush art.

A Night in Symi Painting Available

Hello everyone, γειά σας! This painting took me ages to finish. The “A Night in Symi painting” is inspired by a wonderful Greek island called Symi. While painting, I continuously discovered improvements to make. It kept going, and going, and going. I still don’t think it’s truly finished, but I’ve got to move on.

Me painting “A Night in Symi”

Arriving in the port of Γιαλός in Symi, you see so many traditional stone houses, colorfully painted.

Bright ochres, indigos, and terracotta, with red-tiled roofs and little balconies. It’s truly a fairytale island

Throughout the canvas, we have the energy of the nightlife. People are out dining walking here and there, having conversations under a full moon.

There are so many bright reflections on the calm sea. Warm tones of yellow, pink, orange and gold. A sharp contrast with the cool dark backdrop of the slopes of Γιαλός.

Almost every color of the spectrum has been used in the “A Night in Symi painting”. I incorporated loose brushstrokes and countless layers of thick paint. This allows light to enter the paint film and illuminate the image

Port of Aegina Painting Finished!

I just finished my port of Aegina painting titled "Port of Aegina During Golden Hour" (40 x 30 x 1.5 cm on canvas). It's a new commissioned painting for a collector from Aegina. They wanted something that would remind them of the port of Aegina. I decided to go with a warm feeling of golden hour. That is when I think the town looks really beautiful and memorable during this time of year as the sun sets right in front of the buildings. I feel like I’m getting better at finding special colors that really sing and give off the feeling of a dream-like atmosphere. I’m so happy with how this piece came out and I’ve never been more excited about painting!

Want your own custom painting?

I’ve really enjoyed the last two commissioned paintings. When someone hires me to do a painting, it puts a little more inspiring motivation behind the work to make something the buyer will love. If you’d like to hire me to make you a new painting, you can send me your idea by clicking the button below and then we can discuss details.

Up Next: Mom’s House & Ancient Minoan Painting

In early July I posted about a painting I was working on while in the United States. It was a piece about my mom’s lake house in Wisconsin. I’ve been working on finishing that up and hopefully I will have it available soon.

I’m also really excited for some new ideas I’ve been thinking about. I want to try painting some scenes of ancient life largely from my imagination. In particular, I’d like to paint a scene from the Minoan Palace of Knossos. I’ve been studying a lot about this ancient civilization and I am absolutely fascinated by their artwork and culture. Would you be interested in something like this?

My Painting from 2020 Sold

I’m also excited to announce that I’ve recently sold my painting “Two Cypresses with Wildflowers in Aegina” which is shown below. A local person from Aegina bought it. She saw my work from my current exhibition in Aegina Town at Rico Blings shop. This is the first time I’ve sold an original here in Greece and the first time that I’ve sold from a live exhibition. We’re very happy about that! They will be gifting this piece to a family member who is getting married.

Up Next: Commissioned Painting

I’ve accepted an offer to make a custom painting for a lady in Aegina—the same person who bought the Cypress painting. She asked me to make something depicting the the port of Aegina.

Featured in Article for my Painting Exhibition in Aegina

I was recently featured in this article by Aegina Portal about my painting exhibition in Aegina Town! I spoke a little Greek so it was difficult but a nice experience. Thank you to my friends Takis and Theodora at Rico Blings for showcasing my paintings in their shop and Aegina Portal for making this video 🙏💙

You can view the article here.

It's been so rewarding to collaborate with people here in Aegina and to share my work in person. I'm hoping to sell paintings, of course, but I'm also interested in using my work to do other things. If this painting exhibition in Aegina helps drive traffic and purchases at Rico Blings I will be happy. Also, if I can share some of the hidden areas of Aegina that I have discovered which are depicted in the paintings there that would be nice as well.

All of the paintings are available through my online shop.

Reflecting on 2022 – Getting Married and Quitting my Job to Paint Full-Time

Reflecting on the year with some pieces from 2022. I'm most happy with "Cape Sounio - Temple of Poseidon". It is my second largest piece (180 x 200cm) and painting it was a rewarding journey. I completed the artwork just in time for my second gallery exhibition for the year.

This year I left my full-time job as a product designer to pursue painting. It's a difficult decision as I spent most of my life building that career and my income dropped dramatically. Starting over from scratch is both scary and exciting. It feels like the path that I must take. A painter needs to create full-time or it won’t work.

I was married this year to my wonderful wife. We had a beautiful wedding in Aegina and moved to a new part of the island—close to the sea.

Another favorite from 2022 is this 50x40 cm oil on canvas "Cathedral of Aegina". I faced my fears and started this one outside at the cathedral, in public. I was afraid it would not turn out well but I think it came together. The artwork sold recently.

This year I made 10 paintings and my first two gallery exhibitions. I learned a lot and am excited to make more progress in 2023. Looking forward to sharing more experiences from Greece and to bring new, better art to you all.

I hope you've all had a wonderful year and I wish the best for you. Love to you all.

Reminder: our discount code "XMAS" is valid until the new year. Two more days to get 15% off all items in our shop.

Gallery exhibition 🔜

A Time of Art gallery representative contacted me with an offer to meet and discuss our possible collaboration. We took a trip to Kifisia, north of Athens center and where the gallery is located. We had a great chat and decided to work together.

On July 6th there will be a group exhibition opening and I am part of this exhibition. It is exciting to participate, it will be my first gallery exhibition. Looking forward to this experience and hope to have many more exhibitions in the future.

Have a great month! 🌻🍉

Kind regards,
Zachary Zorbas

Life events and a new painting. ✨

This past month was quite busy while spending time with family and friends, celebrating our wedding, moving to a new place, and finishing the latest painting “The Cathedral of Aegina”.

The painting of it started outdoors, right in the courtyard of the church. It was a new experience, to be out in the town while people were passing by and checking me painting. Although this church is situated in the middle of the Aegina town, it is very peaceful and serene there.

Until next time! 😊🎨

All the best,
Zac
