Balos Lagoon in Crete, Greece

Date: Jan 15, 2020

Media: Oil on linen canvas

Dimensions: 100 x 70 x 3cm

Note:  A painting I made based on my memories of visiting Balos. The road to Balos is uphill and narrow with oncoming cars on one side and a cliff down to the sea on the other. There’s an hour hike before reaching the point where you can see the lagoon below.
Upon reaching the ledge of the cliff, an incredible view of Balos Lagoon reveals itself below. Blue and turquoise crystal clear water and swirls of white, sandy beaches. One has to just sit and marvel at it for some time. It must be one of the most beautiful sights on earth.
I laid on the beach and swam for a few hours. Eventually, I climbed to the top of the plateau. There were goats roaming around the hill.
