Cape Sounio, Temple of Poseidon

Date: August 21, 2022

Media: Oil paint on canvas

Description: 180 x 200 x 3.5cm

Description: This painting will be included in our “Sacred Triangle” collection along with paintings of the Aphaia, Parthenon and Poseidon Doric temples.

Built during the Golden Age of Pericles, The Temple of Poseidon is devoted to the Olympian God of Sea, Poseidon. It forms the Sacred Triangle of antiquity along with the Parthenon and the temple of Aphaia on Aegina Island.

My grandparents spent a lot of time in Sounio and the Athens Riviera. It was one of the first places I went when I first came to Greece in 2010. I have visited there several times now for swimming and painting. There’s a small beach by the foot of the temple which this painting is composed from. It’s near to Grecotel Cape Sounio which is an extraordinarily beautiful hotel and resort.
